The second phase of the Pulse Polio drive has been successfully concluded in Hyderabad on Sunday. In this Polio drive, the health officials could reportedly cover 583,384 children aging below 5 years in the Hyderabad city.
The district health officials said that the door-to-door drive to feed polio drops would continue for three more days for the children who missed out on Sunday. The Pulse Polio immunization drive was launched by Mrs. Vimala Narasimhan (wife of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh) early on Sunday at Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Raj Bhavan Road. Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain was also a part of the polio drive at the Chinthalbasthi Urban Health Post.
Aim of the second phase of the immunization drive was to cover 656,454 children below 5 years in Hyderabad, according to district authorities. The drive included over 3,200 booths along with 66 mobile teams to give polio drops to children. As per health officials, the mobile teams were made to reachout to the children at the construction sites, markets, temples and other religious places.
Booths at the several transit points were also put, mainly at railway stations and bus stations. These were special round-the-clock booths for giving polio doses. About 13,000 persons were working for the Pulse Polio programme.
All those who couldn’t take their children at the Polio booths or their children haven’t received polio drops must wait for the mobile team of the polio drive to arrive which is operating for another three days, specially, for missed out children.
